The Adult Care Center of Central Virginia is deeply honored to have been selected as the Virginia charity benefiting from Taste of the South’s 2014 gala. The Center received a visit from Congressman Bob Goodlatte on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 who presented Shanda Rowe, Executive Director, with a check for $4700. Congressman Goodlatte is a member of Taste of the South’s Honorary Congressional Host Committee.
Taste of the South was founded in 1982 by a group of southerners living in Washington D.C. and working in Congressional offices. Thirteen southern states comprise the group. Each year one charity from each southern state is selected to receive a donation. Over the years Taste of the South has donated over $3.5 million to charities across the south and in Washington, D.C. The Taste of the South homepage states: Taste of the South “is a committed and focused committee of 44 southerners who make it their annual duty to share a taste of the south with Washington, D.C. and give something back to states they will always call home.
Taste of the South’s Virginia Committee included Executive Committee Member Carrie Meadows (a graduate of E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA), Congressman Goodlatte’s Legislative Director; Chairman Carolyn Walser; and Vice Chairman Beth Breeding, Congressman Goodlatte’s Director of Communications.
Congressman Goodlatte was greeted by several members of the Adult Care Center Board who expressed their deep appreciation to him for such a wonderful donation to the Center. Board Chairman Charlie Driscoll noted that fundraising is the Center’s most important priority and this generous gift is a welcome start to the new fiscal year.
Following his presentation of the check, Congressman Goodlatte and accompanying staff visited with Center participants—a visit they will probably never forget!
